The client wanted a contemporary garden 'room' as a natural extension to their newly redesigned drawing-room.
Whilst this is was a relatively small project it was also quite complex , with a difficult set of circumstances to overcome:
The courtyard was tiny - 32 metres in total
Existing boundary walls were in poor shape and of varying heights
Party walls could not be altered
A cherry tree completely overshadowed the courtyard
Our solution was to create a very clean space with the following features:
Travertine paving created the right contemporary feel to the area
We designed bench seats to give additional storage space, which were backed by raised beds
A smart, bespoke trellis in red cedar and marine ply clad the existing brick walls
Low voltage lighting enhanced the view from the sitting room at night
A semi mature Acer palmetum Osakazuki provided structure and colour
Granite planters offset the cream of the travertine and the white walls
